A bespoke ceramics commission
Simultaneously marking the first in a series of events that explore the intersection between nature, food and art and celebrating the history of fermentation ceramics.
Our collaboration with John Mackenzie recognised that ceramics are not only part of NEWLYN FERMENTARY’s identity, but the identity of fermentation itself and, through this commission, we wanted to pay homage to the ceramic fermentation vessels that existed some 9,000 years ago.
To welcome the vessel into the fermentary, our first experimental ferment created in the crock was an autumnal slaw, made with chantenay carrots from Trenow Fields, and sweet red peppers from Bosavern Community Farm, enhanced with warming Aleppo pepper chilli and ginger.
